Cynthia Johnson assumed the position of the new Economic Development Director for Pinellas County on Tuesday, following a lengthy career in several leadership roles.
The former Economic Development Director for Pinellas County, Mike Meidel, retired in early 2021 after 17 years of working for the Pinellas County government.
Throughout Johnson’s 20 years of service in economic development, she brings more than experience to the table — she brings passion.
Johnson previously worked for the Florida Small Business Development Office in Pinellas County, managing small business services such as expansion and diversification opportunities, increasing retention and improving capital investment. Johnson also served as director of the Office of Small Business and Supplier Diversity, where she restructured the Small Business Enterprise Program and helped drastically increase local vendor involvement.
“Together, we will advance our global competitiveness by continuing to grow a strong and diverse economy, talented workforce and resilient communities,” Johnson said.
With a degree from Nova Southeastern University, Johnson also achieved a diversity and inclusion certification from Cornell University.
