Planting New GTB Roots

There is nothing like moving to a place like Greater Tampa Bay, with miles of beautiful beaches, a thriving business community, top-notch health care, excellent education and so much more.

Making GTB home starts with checking off the boxes when it comes to packing up, making the move and settling in. Between learning how to navigate the area to finding fun ways to connect to the community, becoming familiar with a new city in can be inciteful and exciting.

Travelers throughout GTB can get from point A to point B not only by land and sky, but also by water. Several ferries and water taxis operate throughout the region — a huge asset for this community that is centered around, and connected by, Tampa Bay.

Local transportation agencies constantly work to ensure travelers can navigate the region more easily and affordably. New developments keep transportation routes ahead of the curve in the fast-growing region, including the Selmon Expressway’s extension eastward into Brandon and nonstop destinations regularly being added to Tampa International Airport and St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport. Residents enjoy streamlined commutes, with the Flamingo Fares app simplifying payments to transit agencies in Pinellas County, and faster trips to the bay area from Pasco and Hernando counties thanks to the Veterans Expressway and Suncoast Parkway. These are just a few examples of how getting around GTB is made as simple and effective as possible.

Drivers need not be intimidated or confused by interstate numbers and names. The Guide glances into the major freeways connecting neighborhoods and cities throughout the region and how a SunPass keeps commuters in the fast lane and past the toll line.

GTB gives residents various transportation choices, from streetcars to bike-share programs, and it is very pedestrian friendly. Walking, running and pedaling places are also covered here, with programs such as the TrailLink, the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy made up of 31 trails throughout 317 miles.

After getting the lay of the land comes the fun part — connecting to the community and going from newcomer to neighbor. Of course, there are obligations to keep in mind, from setting up utility services to making address changes. Just as important are taking steps to plant new roots, meet new people and get involved in the community. Guide’s helpful to-do lists, well, guide movers into an effortless transition into GTB.

Remember, turning the key to open that front door for the first time is not the end of the journey. A new home offers so many possibilities. The Guide’s getting connected tips and conversation starters with neighbors can open up doors to new places and people that will, in time, become favorite stops and best friends.
