A guide to US News & World Report’s top high schools
Dozens of high schools in Greater Tampa Bay (GTB) were nationally ranked in this year’s US News & World Report. Coming out on top was Plant High School in Tampa.
The list of best high schools evaluated more than 17,800 schools nationwide, including more than 200 schools in the Sunshine State.
Overall, Florida ranks #3 in the nation.
How are these rankings measured and weighted? The following factors determine where schools rank on this list:

- State Assessment Proficiency (20%)
- State Assessment Performance (20%)
- College Curriculum Breadth (10%)
- Underserved Student Performance (10%)
- Graduation (10%)
The 2022 ranking of best high schools shows how well GTB’s public schools serve all students. Students are taught academics and essential life skills that prepare them for college and the professional world.
