DIY: School Locker Edition

Why have a “boring” locker when there is an opportunity to show off some creative design skills? With an abundance of resources and supplies available, any locker can be completely transformed to showcase a student’s unique personality.

Step 1: Find Inspiration

Pinterest, YouTube, We Heart It, Instagram and TikTok are a few popular places to browse for ideas. To take advantage of some of these sources, use hashtags such as #schoolsuppliesshopping, #schoollocker, #lockerdecor, #backtoschool on Instagram, or search for locker ideas, locker aesthetic and decorating school lockers on Pinterest, and watch some DIY locker decorating videos from creators such as Hayley Williams, Sunny Side Up or Caroline Manning.

Step 2: Shop for Supplies

Office Depot, Hobby Lobby, Five Below, BLICK Art Materials and Urban Outfitters are great first stops. For something more original, check out the small businesses on Etsy, which is a company focused on handmade and vintage items; here, a wide range of accessories and supplies can be found.

For example, custom magnet locker décor is something found exclusively on Etsy, which can serve as décor or used to keep an important paper visible; here, an assortment of backgrounds and styles are available, and a name can also be added to make it more customized. Additionally, handmade flower magnets are available on the company’s website, which has extensive flower options to choose from.

Target is another place that provides a wide range of supplies and locker décor. Self-adhesive locker wallpapers come in many designs and can give a special touch to a personalized locker. Brighten things up with some locker string lights or add a modern mirror style like this butterfly mirror to bring it all together.

If looking for a budget-friendly place to purchase supplies, Dollar Tree is a fantastic option. The Instagram page @dollartreeclassrooms, which is run by “two teachers who love Dollar Tree,” provides a variety of ideas when purchasing items for school, whether it is for locker décor or school supplies.

Whatever the budget or style, remember that everybody is different. Be unique and let that personality shine.
