4 Local Hospitals Shine in U.S. News & World Report 

Greater Tampa Bay provides outstanding healthcare for the entire region. The proof is in the quality of care and the numbers. 

The 2022-2023 U.S. News World & Report has listed not one but four hospitals in the GTB area among the best hospitals in the state.

What do U.S. News & World Report rankings mean?

To earn a national ranking in an adult specialty, a hospital must be one of the top 50 hospitals in the country for that particular specialty. A hospital with a high-performing specialty is in the top 10% of all rated hospitals in the country for that specialty.

U.S. News & World Report does not include every hospital in the U.S. in its ratings. Only those that “regularly treat complex cases and therefore have the experience to provide high-quality care” are included, according to its ranking FAQ.

So, if USNWR rates a hospital at all, that hospital ranks among the best. A nationally ranked or high-performing hospital is among the best in that specialty.

Here is a glance at the premiere health care GTB has to offer: 

Tampa General Hospital  

  • Ranked No. 3 hospital in Florida 
  • Ranked No. 1 in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area

With national recognition in seven adult specialties, the facility also rated high in five adult specialties and 11 procedures and conditions. The hospital is also rated as high performing in colon and lung cancer surgery. 

Here’s a breakdown of its ranking in different categories:

  • Ear, nose and throat — No. 16 in the U.S.
  • Diabetes and endocrinology — No. 27 in the U.S.
  • Orthopedics — No. 33 in the U.S.
  • Gastroenterology and GI surgery — No. 34 in the U.S.
  • Obstetrics and gynecology — No. 40 in the U.S.
  • Rehabilitation — tied for No. 40 in the U.S.
  • Pulmonology and lung surgery — No. 49 in the U.S.

Morton Plant Hospital 

  • Ranked No. 2 in Florida 
  • Ranked No. 2 in GTB

Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater has more than 100 years of top patient care and is rated high performing in 14 adult procedures and condit威而鋼 ions.

The hospital treats up to 50,000 patients annually with the latest technology in more than 50 specialties.

MPH is part of the area’s most extensive health care system, BayCare Health System. BayCare includes 15 hospitals and hundreds more facilities in GTB and Central Florida. All are nonprofit. BayCare hosts around 3,500 free classes and events throughout the year.

St. Joseph’s Hospital

  • Ranked No. 12 in Florida
  • Ranked No. 3 in GTB 

St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa is rated high performing in 10 adult procedures and conditions.
