Florida Winter Craft Fun

Floridians can still enjoy traditional winter activities without expensive plane tickets and frigid temperatures. These crafts are easy enough to get the whole family involved and suitable for sunny weather.

Hot Chocolate Marshmallow Cups

Hot chocolate is the perfect indulgence for winter, but no one wants to warm up after a day in the hot Florida sun. This edible craft provides marshmallow chocolate deliciousness without the steamy drink. Families can create a cute dessert tray for movie night or a holiday party with just five simple ingredients and four easy steps.

Ingredients:

  1. 10 jumbo marshmallows
  2. 10 mini candy canes
  3. ¼ cup of dark chocolate melting candy
  4. ¼ cup of white chocolate melting candy
  5. Mallow bits or white sprinkles

Directions:

  1. Melt white and dark chocolate in two separate bowls.
  2. Break an inch off of the long side of a mini candy cane so both sides are the same length. Dip the ends of candy cane into white chocolate and place on the side of the marshmallow.
  3. Spoon dark chocolate on the top of the marshmallow.
  4. Add mallow bits or sprinkles to chocolate.

On a chilly day, add to hot chocolate to give the savory drink a peppermint flavor.

Shell Snowmen

Building a snowman is synonymous with winter fun. Floridians may not have snow, but they can improvise with a beach staple. Children can add a tropical twist to this winter pastime by building their snowmen out of seashells. These two crafts are simple ways to create inexpensive winter décor or holiday gifts. Families can spend a day at the beach (or craft store) searching for shells and an evening making snowmen. Add string to the back to convert into ornaments. Bonus: No one will have to watch their hard work dissolve into a puddle on the front lawn.
